Our first four months: Set in Stone (well, sorta)

Updated: May 19, 2022

Entry 9 (Feb, 1):

We now know the where, what, and when of our first four months abroad (June-September). Of course, we remain flexible in our ever-changing travel climate, and we’ll be ready for a detour to the North Pole if necessary….or Tahiti, a preferable detour.

For June, we found an Airbnb in the quaint village of Muir of Ord, Scotland, just outside of Inverness (where the Loch Ness is…so of course I’ll have my camera ready to spot Nessie). I’ve already discovered a cute little bakery there called Bad Girls Bakery. Sounds like the perfect place to do my digital nomad work. (I’ll continue my position with the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre as its publicity coordinator, so I’ll be working my way around the world.)

Next, we’re headed to Bergen, Norway, for the month of July. What a beautiful location! Actually, everywhere we considered in Norway is beautiful. We look forward to living in the land that will remind us so much of our home in Alaska.

August will provide all the intrigue I need to write a novel. We have been accepted as Workawayers (check out workaway.info to see how you can volunteer around the world) to work at a monastery outside Talinn, Estonia. The nuns at this monastery are beekeepers, so we’ll be helping with gardening and packaging items they produce like honey and lotions. I mean, how cool is that?! Once upon a time, in the faraway land of medieval forests, uninhabited islands and rich culture, lived a bee named Bob, an outsider amongst the Andruses, Endricks, and Maksims who shared his hive.

Then in September, we’re on our way to Transylvania, Romania. We found an astonishingly gorgeous location: the town of Predeal, not too far from Brasov (where Dracula’s castle is located). I’ve already messaged with a couple individuals over there, and they are so nice! Can’t wait to get to know the people and their culture.

We just cannot believe we leave in 4 months. (Flight is booked to Edinburgh on June 2.) Time is flying by!

Prayers appreciated as we make decisions about where to go and what to do. And for flexibility and discernment to change plans if needed. Though we make our plans, we lay them all in God’s hands. (Proverbs 16:9)

Thank you for “journeying” with us.

Hasta Luego,

Pam
